Triathlon New Zealand has announced an exciting four year project to focus the world of triathlon on New Plymouth each April, launching the Port Taranaki World Triathlon Festival, incorporating a round of the ITU BG World Cup series.
Triathlon NZ CEO Dave Beeche said confirmation of a further four years and further development of the World Triathlon Festival will deliver an event to appeal to all people in a celebration of the sport and the region.

Congratulations to New Zealand’s Sarah Walker, who won the UCI BMX World Championship title after taking out the Cruiser class final in Canada in August.
19 year old Walker, from Kawerau, completed a fairytale weekend following on from her silver media in the Olympic class with victory in the bigger 24 inch diameter wheel class.Her results were a first for BMX racing in New Zealand – the first elite medal and then New Zealand’s first elite BMX world champion.

Triathlon New Zealand has launched the 2007/08 Contact Energy ‘My Sport’ Series, following a successful inaugural year, which drew thousands of entries from around the country.
From nervous novices to experienced elites, triathletes of all ages and abilities are once again able to compete in one or a number of races from Timaru to Takapuna.

The Stroke and Stride Series is New Zealand’s most popular swim/run series held in Auckland each summer. Each event involves a sea swim followed by a road run on the waterfront allowing participants to enjoy a regular form of healthy, outdoor exercise progressing through the summer months and makes the most of the city’s magnificent harbour and beaches.
The Stroke and Stride is now in its 19th season, all events are over distances that are achievable and at the same time offering excellent competition for the top athletes. Orca has had a long relationship with Stroke and Stride and is supporting the series once again this summer.

BikeNZ’s new High Performance Director Mark Elliot started with BikeNZ in June. Mark will lead BikeNZ’s high performance area across all member organisations (road, track, mountain bike and BMX) through to and beyond the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, Julian Dean is the the sole New Zealander in the 2008 Tour de France. Julian is wearing the New Zealand National Champion’s jersey - the first time it has been worn in the Tour.

Triathlon NZ Inc is busy planning for an event packed summer whilst also preparing elite athletes and organizing two teams to send away to Europe. The first New Zealand team is heading to Lorient, France for the Long Distance World Championships.
